Ballet

Definition - A theatrical work or entertainment in which a choreographer has expressed his/her ideas in group or solo dancing to a musical accompaniment with appropriate costumes, scenery and lighting.

There are several method of ballet including French, Ceccheti (Italian), Vaganova (Russian), Royal Academy of Dancing (London), and Bournonville (London). Sometimes the different methods share the same name for the same steps and sometimes they differ. The great master, George Ballanchine, combined his Russian training with his own style to develop what is known as American ballet.

Our faculty uses the French terminology used worldwide, a mix of Ceccheti, French, and Russian Styles. Ballet teachers in America today teach a blend as dancers need to be well-trained in many styles in order to get jobs.
