Lyrical dance encompasses components of ballet, modern and jazz. It uses the lyrics of a song or feelings from your heart to make the movements take shape. Like jazz, it is a blend of styles while its origin is in ballet technique.
The popularity of lyrical dance is booming. Many dancers feel that need to express themselves. It is considered a more "freeing" style of dance when compared to ballet.
Dancers must be aware that a strong ballet technique is needed for this art form. This is why we recommend students taking lyrical should have previous ballet training as well as continuing ballet class along side the lyrical class. Lyrical will include barre, center and across the floor work.
